Lambrusco di Sorbara was established as a DOC in 1970 and covers in excess of 1000 hectares. Much of this produces sparkling red wines from the Lambrusco di Sorbara grape, and this is frequently blended with Lambrusco Salamino.
Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara is a large cooperative incorporating around 1200 growers. It produces a range of fairly inexpensive wines, most notably from Lambrusco appellations such as Lambrusco di Sorbara and Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce DOC.
