The hilly district of Darling find itself to the north of Cape Town and is characterised by its proximity to South Africa’s west coast. As such its relatively cooler climate can be detected in the wines, particularly with Sauvignon Blanc but also Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. There are some fascinating wines to be found in the Groenekloof ward.
Groenekloof is a series of hills running parallel to the ocean in the district of Darling. The Neil Ellis estate’s distinctive Cinsault is one of the key wines of the territory. The hills reach 385 metres above sea level.
