About Domaine Bernard Gripa

By Paul Caputo

Domaine Bernard Gripa is one of the star names of winemaking in the Saint-Joseph appellation. Based in the village of Mauves, one of the central villages of the growing area, Fabrice Gripa who is the latest member of the family to farm looks after 12.5 hectares. In addition he oversees a further 3.5 hectares of white varieties in neighbouring Saint-Péray AOC.

In Saint-Joseph the top cuvée is Le Berceau, comprising a white made from 100% Marsanne, and a mono varietal Syrah, both from the domaine’s oldest vines. They are both wines that can age for some considerable time. In Saint-Péray two more wines made from Marsanne and Roussanne are produced, with the top cuvée represented by Les Figuiers, impressively crafted using the grapes from the oldest vines.
