The Broglia estate has been owned by the Broglia family since 1972, when Gian Piero Broglia acquired the property. Today, the winery is managed by his son, Paolo Broglia, who continues the family’s commitment to quality production. The estate collaborates with oenologists such as Donato Lanati, ensuring a balance between tradition and modern winemaking practices.
Broglia’s vineyards are planted on land with a documented history of viticulture dating back to 972 AD. The modern estate was established in the early 1970s when the Broglia family recognized the potential of Rovereto’s terroir and began investing in the production of high-quality Gavi. The winery quickly gained recognition, particularly with its flagship wine, "La Meirana," named after the estate’s historic vineyard.
The estate is located in Rovereto, a subzone within Gavi that is widely considered the heart of the appellation. Rovereto’s calcareous-marl soils and its proximity to the Ligurian Sea contribute to the minerality and freshness of the wines. The estate benefits from a combination of altitude and maritime influence, creating ideal conditions for Cortese.
Broglia owns around 100 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Cortese. The La Meirana vineyard is the estate’s most important site, known for producing wines with precision and depth. The family emphasizes sustainable farming practices and low yields to maintain concentration and varietal purity.
Broglia focuses on expressing the crisp, mineral-driven character of Cortese. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to preserve freshness, and the wines are typically aged on fine lees for added complexity. The estate produces both traditional still Gavi and Metodo Classico sparkling wines, showcasing the grape’s versatility.
Broglia’s portfolio includes several key expressions of Gavi. "La Meirana" is the flagship, a benchmark for the region. "Bruno Broglia" is a selection from older vines, designed for extended aging. The estate also produces a Metodo Classico sparkling Gavi and limited-production single-vineyard wines that highlight different aspects of Rovereto’s terroir.
Broglia offers guided tastings and tours by appointment, where visitors can explore the vineyards, the historic Meirana site, and the winery’s modern facilities. The estate provides insights into the history of Gavi and the Cortese grape, alongside tastings of current releases and older vintages.
