Like many histories across Piedmont, the story of Azienda Agricola Marziano Abbona is one of a family's evolution from post war farming to the first bottling of own label wines, to the international export of globally appreciated wines. The winery's Dogliani 'Papà Celso' celebrates Marziano's father, who planted the family's initial vineyards in the first half of the 20th century. It was in the 1960s and 70s that, under Marziano's leadership the company started to sell wines under its own brand. Today the estate covers 52 hectares of vineyards dotted around the villages of Dogliani, Monforte d’Alba and Novello and now boasts a range of low production wines, each reflecting the vineyards they come from. The winery is still run by Marziano although his daughter Mara and granddaughter Chiara are gradually taking over the reigns. The Marziano name is strongly associated with the wines of Dogliani. With stunning views of the Alps, the company's top vineyard sits on a hillside known as San Luigi, situated between Dogliani and Monforte d'Alba. The soils are a mix of calcareous, sand, loam and clay, complimented by areas of blue marl. The result on the wines is often one of structure, finesse, and mineral driven complexity.
