Based in Castiglione Falleto, the Paolo Scavino estate is one of the most important in the Barolo area. Founded in 1921, the Scavino name carries four generations of family wine making heritage with it. At the height of the Barolo wars, when producers identified themselves more or less with a traditionalist or modernist approach to ripeness, extraction and maturation, the Paolo Scavino estate still defied the categories. As the traditionalist and modernist debate feels increasingly outdated in Barolo, pinning down the Scavino style feels increasingly elusive.
