Roederer Estate is owned by Champagne Louis Roederer, a prestigious French Champagne house. The estate was founded by Jean-Claude Rouzaud, then president of Champagne Louis Roederer, who sought to produce premium sparkling wines in California. Today, the winery continues under the leadership of Frédéric Rouzaud, representing the seventh generation of the Roederer family. Wines are currently made by Arnaud Weyrich.
In 1982, Jean-Claude Rouzaud identified Anderson Valley's cool climate as ideal for sparkling wine production and established Roederer Estate. The inaugural release, the multi-vintage Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut, debuted in 1988. Over the years, the estate has expanded its offerings to include Brut Rosé and the vintage prestige cuvées, L'Ermitage and L'Ermitage Rosé.
Situated in Philo, within Mendocino County's Anderson Valley, Roederer Estate benefits from the region's proximity to the Pacific Ocean. This location provides a gentle cooling effect on the vines, allowing grapes to mature slowly and develop full varietal character.
Roederer Estate exclusively uses estate-grown grapes from its 580-acre vineyard, planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery employs meticulous farming practices, including organic and biodynamic methods, to ensure the highest quality fruit. Oak-aged reserve wines from the estate's cellars are added to each blend, creating multi-vintage cuvées that reflect the traditional Louis Roederer style.
The winemaking philosophy at Roederer Estate emphasizes control over every aspect of production, from vineyard management to bottling. The estate-grown fruit undergoes fermentation in high-grade stainless steel tanks, with zero to minimal malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness. A portion of reserve wines, aged in oak casks, is added to the blends, enhancing complexity and depth.
Roederer Estate produces a range of acclaimed sparkling wines, including the multi-vintage Anderson Valley Brut and Brut Rosé, as well as the vintage-dated L'Ermitage and L'Ermitage Rosé. These wines are celebrated for their elegance, balance, and depth of flavour. Recent vintages have scored well on Vinorandum.
The estate offers a newly refreshed tasting room with vineyard views and refined outdoor seating.
