Vignamaggio is owned by the Patricio Bertelli family, known for their involvement in the fashion industry through Prada. The estate has undergone significant restoration under their ownership, balancing historical preservation with modern viticulture and hospitality.

The estate dates back to the 14th century and has long been associated with the Gherardini family, the lineage of Lisa Gherardini - believed to be the model for Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Over the centuries, Vignamaggio has evolved from a noble villa to a fully operational winery and luxury agriturismo, maintaining its historical significance while adapting to contemporary winemaking.

Vignamaggio is situated in the heart of Chianti Classico, near Greve in Chianti, one of the region’s key wine-producing villages. The estate spans rolling hills between Florence and Siena, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and woodlands, offering an authentic Tuscan setting.

The estate covers over 200 hectares, with vineyards planted primarily to Sangiovese, alongside Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and other varieties. Vignamaggio embraces organic viticulture, emphasising sustainable farming and biodiversity, aligning with Chianti Classico’s focus on high-quality, terroir-driven wines.

Vignamaggio produces wines under the Chianti Classico DOCG and Toscana IGT labels. Their winemaking philosophy blends tradition with innovation, utilising meticulous grape selection, modern vinification techniques, and careful oak ageing to craft elegant, structured wines.

The estate’s flagship wine is its Chianti Classico, often made from a high percentage of Sangiovese. They also produce Chianti Classico Riserva, a more age-worthy expression, and Super Tuscan-style wines incorporating international varieties. There is also a rosé and a Vin Santo.

Vignamaggio operates as a luxury agriturismo, offering accommodation in restored farmhouses and villas. Visitors can tour the historic cellars, enjoy wine tastings, and explore the estate’s extensive gardens. Dining experiences focus on estate-grown produce, creating a comprehensive Tuscan wine and hospitality experience.
