Santenots is a distinctive group of Premier Cru vineyards located within the commune of Meursault but classified as Volnay when planted to red grapes. The sector includes several named climats, such as Les Santenots du Milieu, Les Santenots Blancs, and Les Plures, all situated on south and southeast-facing slopes with deep, iron-rich clay-limestone soils. Here we are interested in Pinot Noir though, and from Santenots it is among the most powerful and structured in Volnay, often showing dark fruit, firm tannins, and a broad, muscular frame that rewards cellaring. Despite their weight, the wines retain the finesse and aromatic lift that define the Volnay appellation.
