The island of Ischia, just off the coast of Naples is a fascinating wine making territory. Whites are produced with the local Biancolella. Reds are made with Cannonau and Piedirosso. There is also some sparkling wines made with the white Forastera grape.
“Bright citrus notes on the nose, reminiscent of freshly squeezed lemon and grapefruit, complemented by herbaceous scents of sage and thyme. Fresh, juicy simplicity on the palate. Attractive, fruit forward finish. Well balanced and well made.”
“Exotic fruit aromas merge with gentle salinity, quince and wild sage. The palate is fresh and fruity, but with a little lees complexity. Succulent stone fruit and mineral finesse add to a general aura of balance, harmony and terroir. Outstanding white and clear reference point for the variety.”
Casa d’Ambra is the leading producer on the small island of Ischia, producing a range of wines from local grape varieties such as Biancolella and Forastera.
