Despite covering less than 100 hectares of vineyard, Val d’Arno di Sopra DOC has one of the most complex set of criteria for winemaking. On the one hand this is positive as the consorzio are clearly active, attempting to regulate quality through production restrictions. On the other hand, it leaves the consumer puzzled and disengaged.

“Fine nose of black cherry, violets, blueberry, earth and moss. In the mouth this is plush, with juicy dark fruit with layers of fresher red strawberry and cranberry. Lovely savoury mellowness on the mid palate, before a powerful, concentrated finish. This is a serious wine with a solid, age-worthy structure and plenty of room for evolution in glass and bottle.”
