Chablis is one of the great Chardonnay appellations of the world. Located just to the north of Burgundy, although always referenced as part of Burgundy, Chablis sets the bar for cool, marginal climate Chardonnay. There are seven Grand Cru sites, and forty Premier Cru sites.
Petit Chablis was created in response to the rising demand for Chablis and in recognition of the need to protect the classic Chablis territory from inferior wines. Nevertheless, there are still some excellent wines made here, especially from producers known for making premium wines across Burgundy.
