Friulano is a white grape variety grown in North East Italy. It is known as Sauvignonasse in France. Controversy surrounds the naming of this white grape variety. The EU decided there was too much scope for confusion with the protected Hungarian Tokaji, but rather confusingly the grape may continue to be called Tocai Friulano, even if the wine may not. Therefore, only the term Friulano appears on a label.
