About Domaine Sigalas

By Paul Caputo

Situated on the ancient plains of Oia on the island of Santorini, Domaine Sigalas is without doubt one of the great wineries of Greece. The estate has pioneered understanding of a number of indigenous grape varieties and now produces some of the world’s best expressions of Assyrtiko, Aidani, Athiri, Mandilaria and the red skinned Mavrotragano.

Domaine Sigalas was created in 1991 but it wasn’t until 1998 that a new, purpose built winery was constructed. After various phases of investment and expansion, the estate now boasts the capacity to produce up to 300,000 bottles a year. This is spread across various lines - dry red, white and rose, as well as the small production of sweet Vin Santo style wines.
